Three sexual abuse nonprofits have removed all or nearly all mentions of trans people from their blogs and articles. All three receive federal funding, but are independent organizations.
Honestly, I feel the hurt and betrayal here on the one hand... But also as a transmasculine DV survivor I also feel like this isn't a major change. Because there are basically no real resources for us. Any mentions we get at DV organizations are basically only lip service anyway.
I'm literally becoming a trauma therapist BECAUSE I could find zero resources when trying to leave an abusive marriage 7 years ago. For reference, I live in Portland, Oregon - so you know, a super queer city with a lot of resources and funding for trans issues. Even with all that, we don't actually have real DV resources or support groups for trans people. They're literally all aimed at cis women (and will allow feminine AFAB enbies to join - probably while persistently misgendering them).
I would kind of rather be omitted from their sites entirely than have them pretend to give a shit when they weren't actually able to help people like me. The performative allyship is becoming obvious and maybe that's a good thing in the long run. 🤷🏽 We need real inclusion, not what has been happening for years.
This is what happens when our funding comes from outside groups/individuals/orgs that can then essentially blackmail us by saying they’ll pull the funding unless we do whatever they ask.
Spineless fools. It probably betrays how insincere they were towards us 2SLGBTQI+ people in the first place.
